Common Internet Connection Problems.

Even under the best of circumstances, there will be interruptions during your internet travels. Below are a few of the most common service glitches and simple solutions to get you up and connected again.

Error: I get disconnected when I send/receive e-mail.

This is happening because Outlook Express has a setting to disconnect you from the internet when you send and receive e-mail. To fix this, follow the instructions below:

1. Open up Outlook Express.

2. After Outlook Express opens click on “Tools”, this brings up a drop down box. Go to the bottom of this box and click “Options”.

3. On the Outlook Express Options Page click on the “Connection” tab.

4. Uncheck the box next to "Hang up after sending and receiving”. Click “OK”

5. Restart Outlook Express. You should now be able to send and receive e-mail without being disconnected.

Error: When I dial up, I get an invalid username or password error.

This happens most frequently due to the encryption Windows automatically uses when you enter a password on your machine locally. Due to updates to Windows or other third-party updates, Windows sometimes “forgets” the password. All you need to do is re-enter your password and you’ll be able to connect. Another explanation for this is that the username and password were typed in incorrectly. Make sure you are not adding any spaces and you are using the upper and lower case letters exactly as your ISP gave them to you. If these don’t fix your problem, contact your ISP. They may be having some technical difficulties or you may have another problem that they can help you out with.

Error: Not receiving a dial tone.

The first thing you need to check is that the modem is plugged into the phone jack. If it is, pick up your telephone and try and make a call. If you are able to do that, then you need to call your phone company and ask them to do a line test or to make sure they aren’t doing any maintenance. If all is well on their end, then you probably have something wrong with your modem and it needs to be replaced.
